Cold-Seal

Bemis helps customers push the envelope with industry-leading cold-seal cohesive materials that are stronger, less costly and easier to use.

Our proprietary cold-seal cohesive materials are special structures that seal with pressure alone. When two separate cohesive surfaces come together, they adhere or “stick” to one another. Because no heat is involved, cold-seal packaging is ideal for products susceptible to heat damage. Gentler on package contents than traditional heat-seal, cold-seal materials won’t damage or distort products.

There are other key benefits. Cold-seal allows significantly faster filling speeds than heat-sealing, because cold-seal does not require dwell time to create the seal. Heat-seal also requires longer machine start-up times to warm up the seal jaws, and more frequent maintenance of the seal jaws. Temperature fluctuations in the seal jaws can result from the packaging machine ramping up and down to meet changing product feed rates. These fluctuations can lead to inconsistent seal performance. Cold-seal eliminates this concern and can keep pace with the machine even when it runs at maximum speed.

In addition, cold-seal eliminates package burn-through and makes cleanup of the packaging machine faster and easier. Best of all, cold-seal helps to eliminate channel leakers and provides a hermetic seal to extend shelf life and safeguard product freshness.

Widely acknowledged as a global leader in cold-seal technology for confectionery, snack, and specialty applications, Bemis stands ready to help you evaluate benefits and financial implications of this ultra “cool” technology.
