New Bemis® Magic Steam™ high-temp film is FDA-compliant up to 270°F, opening up opportunity to steam-heat a wide variety of meats, meals, vegetable medleys, sauces and more right in the bag.
Oshkosh, Wisconsin - October 10, 2008 - Processors can now offer steam-in-bag flavor and convenience for a wider variety of foods than ever before, thanks to new Bemis® Magic Steam™ high-temp film from Bemis Flexible Packaging-Milprint Division. The newest Bemis Magic Steam film with seal-vent technology withstands temperatures high enough to heat proteins while also maintaining a hermetic seal throughout distribution. FDA-compliant up to 270° F, the film self-vents without holes, slits or perforations, eliminating openings that can allow contamination into the package. Bemis Magic Steam film is ideal for prepared meals and side dishes containing meats or other proteins, as well as for traditional steam-in-bag applications such as vegetables.
"New Bemis Magic Steam high-temp film has the potential to take traditional ready-to-heat frozen meals ‘out of the box' and into flexible packaging," says Tom Bellmore, market manager for Bemis Flexible Packaging-Milprint Division. "Consumers can cook, serve and eat flavorfull foods like chicken fettuccini or potatoes au gratin from one easy package. And that package uses the least amount of material possible."
Available in formats including rollstock, quad-seal pouches, bottom-gusseted stand-up pouches and pillow pouches. Bemis Magic Steam film can be combined with easy-open features for convenient, scissors-free opening. Whether purchased as rollstock or pre-made pouches, the film will run easily on existing VFFS or other filling equipment without machine modifications.
Bemis Magic Steam film is available in all traditional open-air venting methods as well as Bemis seal-vent technology, a proprietary in house technology that maintains a safe, hermetic seal during distribution and then self-vents during cooking.
Bemis Magic Steam film also offers opportunities for source reduction. Compared to tray & lid packaging in a chipboard box, Bemis Magic Steam packaging is significantly lighter, thinner and less bulky for highly favorable product-to-package ratios and supply-chain efficiencies. Typically, the films use significantly less material by volume, helping processors meet aggressive sustainability goals and achieve high ratings on environmental scorecards.
